Bodies of 2 students drowned while bathing post Holi celebration recovered

Berhampur: The bodies of two students, who went missing while taking bath after Holi celebration, were recovered by the ODRAF, police and fire services team after an intense rescue operation of 73 hours on Sunday.

Sources said the students’ bodies were recovered some two kilometers away from Gopalpur Port.

According to reports, as many as 16 students of two private colleges in Berhampur had gone to the sea to take bath after playing Holi on Friday. However, four of them went missing while bathing at Gopalpur beach near Haripur ghat. People present on the spot managed to rescue one of them with the help of the local fishermen.

On being informed, ODRAF team along with police also launched a search operation to rescue the missing students. However, body of one of the three students, identified as T. Sidharth Patra, was recovered later on the same day. But his friends namely A. Lokesh and D. Hitesh were missing until their bodies were recovered this morning.

Police said the bodies will be handed over to the family members of the students after postmortem. A pall of gloom has descended on Gopalpur area following the unfortunate death of the three students.
