Cuttack: Senior IPS officer Bijay Kumar Sharma on Monday became the first Director of Civil Defence in Odisha with the change in nomenclature of DG Fire Services & Commandant General Home Guards today.
Prior to taking charge as DG Fire Services & Commandant General Home Guards in November last year, Sharma was serving as DG (Prisons). Earlier, he was promoted and posted as Special DGP Crime Branch (CID). He has also served as ADG of Crime Branch.
The 1986 batch IPS officer has also worked as Commissioner of Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack from May 2008 to May 2012.
He has served as Superintendent of Police of various districts between November 1990 and July 1999 before going to deputation in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from July 1999 to July 2006.
