BJP, BindusagarBhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged an hour-long Jal Satyagraha at the Bindusagar pond near the Lingaraj temple here on Thursday, as part of its week-long ‘Hak Ra Ladhei Jatra’ (Fight for Right March).

Lingaraj Mandal of the saffron party staged the Jal Satyagraha to press the demand to make the water body pollution free. Hundreds of party workers, led by the State Vice-President Sameer Mohanty, joined the protest that began at 10 am.

The party also levelled corruption charges on Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation (BMC) and the state government in the recent restoration work of the pond.

“A sum of Rs 3.5 crore was given to a Pune-based firm to clean Bindusagar. However, the cleaning work has been stalled and the water body has become more polluted. It shows the rampant corruption in the multi crore project.” alleged Sameer Mohanty.

“We demand that the state government should restore the water body at the earliest, or else we will intensify our protest in the days ahead,” warned Mohanty.

Under its ‘Hak Ra Ladhei Jatra’ programme, the saffron party has planned to conduct awareness rallies in 36,000 booths, 92,000 wards and 1001 mandals in the state starting from today.
