BJP retains power in Gujarat, wins in Himachal Pradesh Polls

Ahmedabad/ Shimla : Bharatiya Janata Party has retained power in Gujarat  for sixth straight term and also won Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections.

In Gujarat, the party bagged 99 seats out of 182, while Congress got 80 seats and 3 seats were won by others.

Prominent winners include Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, State BJP President Jitubhai Vaghani and incumbent Minister Babubhai Bhimabhai Bokhiriya and Gujarat Assembly speaker and BJP candidate Ramanlal Vora.

Young Leader and independent candidate Jignesh Mevani won from Vadgam with a huge margin of over 20 thousand votes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his gratitude to the people of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh for their support to BJP candidates.

In Himachal Pradesh too, BJP ousted Congress by pocketing 44 seats out of 68 Assembly seats. While Congress managed to get 21 seats, the independent candidates and other party candidates shared the rest 3 seats. Chief Minister and Congress candidate Virbhadra Singh won from Arki constituency, while BJP’s Chief Ministerial face Prem Kumar Dhumal was defeated in Sujanpur constituency.

Counting of votes started this morning for both the states amidst tight security.
