BJD’s second phase Mahanadi Surakhya Abhiyan to begin from today

Jharsuguda: Odisha Chief Minister and president of the state ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Naveen Patnaik will on Wednesday flag-off the second phase of the Mahanadi Surakhya Abhiyan (Save Mahanadi campaign) from Sukhasoda village under Lakhanpur block of the district where Mahanadi enters into Odisha.

Patnaik will also address a public meeting at Chikhili of Bargarh district on the other side of Mahanadi.

The campaign will continue for around a fortnight and culminate in Paradip after crossing 15 districts – Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Anugul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Puri.

BJD leaders and workers will conduct different programme like meetings, roadside gatherings and cultural programmes during the Mahanadi Surakhya Abhiyan to make the people aware of the circumstances leading to decline in the flow of Mahanadi river water into the state.

As many as 12 platoons of police force have been deployed to maintain law and order during the flagging-off ceremony of the Save Mahanadi campaign. Besides, seven Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSPs) have been given the charge of security arrangement.

It is worth mentioning that Odisha has been objecting to constructions of projects on Mahanadi by Chhattisgarh which has closed all the 66 gates of Kalma barrage declining water flow into Hirakud dam.
