Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader Biswabhusan Harichandan on Friday took a dig at BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his lack of knowledge in Odia language.
“Despite ruling the state for the last 17 years, the Chief Minister has no knowledge of Odia language. Neither he can speak nor write which is why he is not able to meet the people. What is shocking the most is that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is the only ruler in the country who does not know the mother tongue of the people he rules for the last 17 years,” said Harichandan while addressing a press meet here at the party headquarters office.
“Around 95% of the people of the state do not understand English language therefore Odia language should be used for all official purposes including in the Court or else the state will not develop,” he added.
In his reaction to BJP’s allegation, BJD vice president and Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout questioned, “If Biswabhusan Harichandan has such command on Odia language why the people of the state do not make him the Chief Minister, why is he even not able to win a MLA seat?”
“The people of the state have faith on CM Naveen Patnaik even though he does not know Odia as he understands the feelings of the people and works selflessly for the all-round development of the state”, Rout claimed.
