Biju Research Chair to be Set up in KISS

Bhubaneswar: Biju Research Chair would be set up in the honour of former Odisha Chief Minister and legendary leader Biju Patnaik in Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). This was announced by Prof. Harekrushna Satapathy, Vice Chancellor of KISS.

Students and staff of the institute paid tribute to Biju Patnaik on the occasion of his 21st death anniversary today.

KISS is the first university in India to set up a Research Chair in the name of Biju Babu, informed Prof. Satapathy. It will stimulate research on life and work of the late leader, he added.

Besides, a statue of the former Odisha Chief Minister will be placed on the premises of KISS, where statues of great personalities including Mahatma Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose, Swami Vivekananda, Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Gautam Buddha, Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, Madhusudan Das are placed.

Remembering Biju Patnaik, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT & KISS spoke on his ideology and role in India’s freedom movement.

“Biju Babu always said that quality education can break the cycles of inter-generational poverty. The KG to PG formula of providing education free of cost in the capital city where the marginalized get an opportunity to become changemakers was envisioned by Biju Patnaik,”said Dr. Samanta adding Patnaik’s dreams are getting realised at KISS in true sense and spirit.

Among others, R. N. Dash, Secretary of KIIT & KISS; Dr. P. K. Routray, CEO of KISS, Surjyakant Mohanty, COO of KISS; Dr. P. K. Das, Director of KISS; Rabi Behera, Surendra Das, Secretary General, Chinta O Chetana and Ashok Pandey were present and paid tribute to Biju Babu.
