Bijepur By-Poll Winner meets Naveen Patnaik

Bhubaneswar: A day after the Bijepur by-poll result was announced, the BJD leader and MLA-elect Rita Sahu met party supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas here on Thursday.

Sahu was accompanied by Labour Minister Sushant Singh, Handlooms Minister Snehangini Chhuria and hundreds of party workers to the meeting with the BJD supremo.

The BJD candidate defeated her nearest rival Ashok Panigrahi of BJP with a huge margin of 41, 933 votes.

“The clean image of CM Naveen Patnaik and the State governments various developmental projects in our region as well as the popularity of my husband helped me to win this by-election,” said the MLA-elect Rita Sahu while talking to Kalinga TV.

Naveen Patnaik yesterday hailed the party’s impressive show and called the outcome a “rejection” of violence by the people of Bijepur.

The by-election was necessitated in Bijepur following the demise of three-time Congress MLA Subal Sahu in August last year.
