Bijepur By-polls: Police seize Rs 42.5 lakh, two arrested

Bargarh: Padmapur police in the district seized Rs 42.5 lakh from a car near Mahulapalli on Saturday. Cops also arrested two businessmen from Padampur who were transporting the cash in a four-wheeler.

The arrested persons have been identified as Akash Agarwal and Om Prakash Agarwal.

Sources said that the cash, in Rs 2000 and Rs 500 denominations, was being carried to the by-poll bound Bijepur from Chhattisgarh.

Police are interrogating them to extract more information about the seizure of the cash, added the sources.

Speaking about the incident, Padmapur SDPO Laxmi Narayan Panda said that police had a tip-off of the money being carried to the by-election bound Bijepur following which cops conducted a checking at Mahulapali Square and recovered the money from the car.

Both the businessmen were taken into custody after they failed to give satisfactory answer about the cash, added Panda. 

Notably, Gaisilat police had seized Rs 3.2 lakh from two cars at Talpali Square of the district on February 14.
