Bhubaneswar: Barpali NAC chairperson Meena Seth, vice chairperson Pradyumna Tripathy and six councilors of the ULB today joined the BJD.
Seth and Tripathy announced their parting of ways with the Congress and joining the BJD after meeting Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik at the latter’s residence here. Later, six councilors – namely Achyutananda Panda, Sukhi Behera, Aswini Parida, Gayatri Rout, Rebati Bhoi and Babita Ran – were also inducted into the BJD.
Naveen told press persons in the presence of the NAC chairman, her deputy and all the councilors that their entry would further strengthen the party in Bargarh. Welcoming all to the party fold, Naveen said he was immensely happy with the induction.
In her reaction to the media ahead of joining the BJD, Seth said it was late Subal Sahu who brought her to politics. Along with late Sahu, she remained a staunch opponent of the ruling party for the last 10 years, but changed her mind after the latter’s wife Rita Sahu joined the BJD, recently.
While answering questions put by media persons on the occasion, state labour minister and Bhatli MLA Sushant Singh said the BJD is getting stronger day by day in Bijepur and a few more leaders from other parties would join it in the coming days. Singh also claimed that even some BJP leaders in Bargarh are keen to join the BJD.
