Baramunda bus stand to take shape of ‘Inter State Bus Terminal’ soon

Bhubaneswar: The Baramunda bus stand would be redeveloped into a multi-modal hi-tech Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) by April 2019 as per a decision taken at a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Odisha Secretariat on Thursday.

During the meet, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Vice Chairman Dr Krishan Kumar presented the ISBT Redevelopment Project plan to Chief Minister which was approved by the latter.

Informing on the new project, Kumar said the new bus terminal will be erected at a budget of Rs 180 crore on a land area of over 15 acres for which tender will be invited by the end of January this year. Construction of the terminal would start by June and is expected to be completed by next year.

As per the plan presented by BDA, the ISBT at Baramunda would consist of both bus terminal area as well as commercial complex. While there would be a multi-storied terminal building of 9,839 square metres, the commercial building would be of 21,350 square metres with five floors.

The ISBT would be having intra-city, intercity (intra-state) and interstate bus services once it is completed.

The hi-tech terminal would be completely Wi-Fi enabled, with fire detection and fire fighting system, CCTV surveillance, modern vehicle parking lot, parking area for physically challenged, passenger information display system,  use of alternate energy source like solar power, water treatment system, sewerage treatment plant, elevators and escalators.

Chief Minister has directed BDA to complete all formalities in the direction of ISBT on a war footing basis.
