Baijayant Panda suspended from BJD

Bhubaneswar: The founding member of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda has been suspended from the party for his anti-party activities, informed BJD Vice-President Surjya Narayana Patro this evening.

“BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik suspended Baijayant Panda from the primary membership of the party,” said Patro.

Panda was elected to Lok Sabha in 2009 and 2014 from Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency. Earlier, he was elected to Rajya Sabha twice from BJD.

The four-time MP angered party supremo Naveen and other party leaders over his continuous appreciation to opposition parties particularly BJP and criticized BJD government every now and then.

Panda has been alleged for not communicating party workers while implementing his MPLAD funds in Kendrapara. He was also criticized for not campaigning for BJD during last Panchayat elections.

However, the recent inauguration of an overhead water tank project at Buhalo in Nischintakoili block of Cuttack district by him exposed the cold war between Baijayant and rest of the BJD leaders in Kendrapara.

Later, the party president asked the Kendrapara observer Pramila Mallick and Cuttack observer Usha Devi to submit a detailed report about the allegations against Panda.

The decision came after the duo submitted the report.

Meanwhile, Jay Panda has tweeted and expressed his shock over the news
