Baripada: An ATM card looter couple was caught by public and thrashed brutally after being handed over to police in Takatpur under Baripada police limits in Mayurbhanj district last night.
The incident took place at around 7 PM in the evening while one local Nagesh Khillar of Takatpur area arrived at the State Bank of India (SBI) ATM located near Takatpur Square to withdraw money. After Khillar faced initial trouble in withdrawing money, a youth already present inside the ATM unit at that time offered to help him. After Khillar handed over his ATM to him, he ran away from the spot and tried to flee boarding a Hyundai i10 car (Registration No. OD 02 AJ 9277) parked outside.
Khillar chased the man and raised an alarm, locals rounded up and nabbed him along with a woman and two others present inside the car. They were handed over to Baripada Police after an episode of rough up in the hands of irate public.
“We had detained four accused including a couple boarding a car from Takatpur area in the evening while they were trying to loot ATM card from a teacher near the SBI ATM. We seized at least 14 cards of different banks from their possession and took two of them into custody after preliminary interrogation,” said Baripada SDPO Abhimanyu Nayak.
