Puri: Internationally acclaimed sand artist Manas Sahoo created a sand sculpture near the Light House on Puri sea beach to pay homage to the brave soldiers of India on the occasion of the 70th Army Day on Monday.

Sahoo portrayed the brave army soldiers in his 15-feet sand sculpture with a message – “Salute to the real Heroes.”

“We have created this sand sculpture to salute the soldiers who scarified their lives to protect us. While we are sleeping happily and peacefully in our houses, the soldiers fight for us by bearing hot summer and cold on the border. Their sacrifice in protecting our nation is so prominent that the story of their bravery is endless. Therefore, we salute them through this sand sculpture,” said Manas Sahoo.

It took around five hours for him to erect the beautiful sand sculpture.

Notably, the Army Day is celebrated on 15th January every year in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa’s (then a Lieutenant General) taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15th January, 1949.

The Army Day is dedicated to the soldiers who fought to safeguard the country’s honour.
