AP Officials’ visit: Odisha govt to electrify Kotia Panchayat soon

Koraput: Odisha government has geared up to provide electricity conection in Kotia Panchayat of the district in the wake of Andhra Pradesh officials’ recent visit in the area. Sources said that the electrification work would begin in the area within seven days.

Notably, Vizianagaram Collector Vibek Jadav, former Salur MLA RP Bhanja Deo, Parvathipuram P.A, ITDA had visited Tala Ganjeipadar in the Panchayat on Tuesday. They had distributed blankets, solar lights, pension to 65 beneficiaries under the flagship Janmabhoomi programme of AP government.

Meanwhile, Koraput Collector Anupam Saha submitted a detailed report to the state government on the visit of the AP officials. He had also sent the Sub-Collector, Pottangi Tehsildar and the Block Development Officer to the Panchayat to take stock of the situation.

According to reports, as many as 21 villages having 22 anganwadi centres, 23 schools, one RI office each and police outpost are there in the Panchayat. The Kotia Panchayat is in Odisha’s territory since it became a separate state on April 1, 1936. However, the neighboring Andhra Pradesh has been claiming the Panchayat as a part of its administrative jurisdiction since 1962.

The border dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh had reached the Supreme Court which said that the territory dispute does not come under its purview saying the Parliament could discuss the matter.

Interestingly, the locals have been participating in the election process of both the states.
