Agitating teachers put strike on hold till Mar 9

Bhubaneswar: The agitating teachers and staff of schools and colleges called off their marathon strike on Sunday and decided to put it on hold till March 9. They took the decision after meeting Higher Education Minister Ananta Das and School & Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra who assured to fulfil six of their seven demands.

Convener of the teachers’ body Golak Nayak while speaking to the reporters informed that a delegation of the Teachers and Employees United Forum met the Ministers who assured to fulfill our six demands. In return, keeping in view the matric and plus two examination in the state, we decided put our stir on hold till March 9.

“However, if the state government fails to fulfil our demands, we will hit the street again and will skip the evaluation of the answer sheet,” added Nayak.

The United Forum has been staging a dharna at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg here since March 9  demanding withdrawal of the clause mandating submission of affidavit to avail grant-in-aid.
