Agitating Block Grant Teachers Launch Indefinite Strike

Bhubaneswar: Agitating block grant teachers, who have been protesting in front of 57 matric exam evaluation centres since March 20, launched an indefinite strike at lower PMG square here on Monday.

Thousands of teachers under the banner of School College Teachers’ and Employees United Forum staged demonstrations here shouting slogans and showing placards to press their demands that include implementation of recommendation of the seventh pay commission and increase of the retirement age to 62 among others.

Earlier, the agitating teachers were not allowing other teachers to enter the centres and participate in the evaluation work.

The State government has employed 13,280 teachers including 6,000 block grant teachers for Matric answer sheet evaluation.

Around 40,000 teachers have been engaged in 4,000 block grant schools across the state.

Meanwhile, the block grant college teachers have decided to boycott the evaluation process of Plus 2 answer sheets scheduled to begin from April 4.
