Bhubaneswar : Dr Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT and KISS, felicitated the Odia athletes who participated in the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships which concluded in Bhubaneswar on July 9. While Jauna Murmu, coaches N Ramesh and Nilamadhab Deo were honoured, athletes Dutee Chand, Purnima Hembram and Srabani Nanda walked away with cash prizes.
Dutee, who won Bronze medals in 4X400 meters relay and 100 metres sprint was given ₹3 lakh while Srabani who was part of the relay team and Purnima who got a bronze in heptathlon got ₹1.5 lakhs each.
Congratulating the athletes, Dr Samanta said, “KIIT has been pioneering sports development and is happy to felicitate the athletes who have made us proud.”
Dutee Chand, who had come along with her family, thanked Dr Samanta. “I thank KIIT university for always helping me. I will continue to do better.”
Saina Salonika of KIIT International School, who won gold medal in Under 14 category in Commonwealth Chess Championship, was also felicitated on the occasion.
