92 Counterfeit currency notes seized in Bhadrak, 3 held

Bhadrak: Unearthing a counterfeit currency racket, police seized fake currency notes worth Rs 18,600 and arrested three persons after conducting a raid in Sunamuin village under Bhandaripokhari police limits in the district on Monday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Debasish Mohanty of Nuapatna, Chandrakant Nayak of Nuapokhari and Ajay Kumar Swain of Lunapadi village.

Bhandaripokhari Police conducted the raid during ‘Chadak Mela’ after getting a tip-off on fake currency circulation which was taking place in the night. During the raid, cops seized at least 92 fake currency notes of Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 500 denominations from the possession of the accused trio and took them into custody. A bike was also seized from the spot which the accused were using.

Police said from the preliminary investigation it has been found that the fake currencies were being supplied from Anandpur area of Keonjhar district.

An investigation is underway and police are examining the possibility of the involvement of a larger racket in the incident.
