60th Senior Police Officers’ Conference kicks off at Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The 60th Senior Police Officers’ Conference of Odisha Police kicked off at the Police Bhawan in the city on Tuesday.

Speaking at the conference soon after inaugurating it, the Odisha Director General of Police (DG) RP Sharma suggested a balance between traditional policing and progressive methods for policing philosophy in the state. He also emphasised on the partnership between police and citizen in crime control.

“Odisha Police should continue with its efforts to improve its public relation and increase public confidence. Our endeavour should be to work without fear or favour and provide a sense of security to the people. Our police stations should be people-friendly, accessible and inclusive,” said DGP in his opening address.

Similarly, Sharma appealed the cops to hone their skills to deal with the new forms of crimes like cyber-attack.

“In the three-day affair, the police conference would witness the deliberations on professional policing subjects like law and order, crime scenario of the state, Left Wing Extremism, capacity building of police stations, people friendly policing, ethical behaviour in policing, crime control measures, critical incident management, effective use of social media, resource management in Special Armed Police,” said a note released by the Odisha Police ahead of the conference.

Senior Police Officers’ Conference is an annual exercise undertaken by the State Police Headquarters to review, introspect, debate and discuss on professional police subjects, with a view to come out with concrete action plan and strategies to handle current and emerging challenges to policing.

The closing ceremony of the conference would be held in the presence of CM Naveen Patnaik on March 15.
