6 wagons of goods train derail in Koraput, rail traffic hit

Jeypore: In yet another freight carrier derailment in the state, at least six wagons of an iron ore laden train suffered derailment on route no. 5 at Koraput Junction railway station near Damanjodi last night.

The incident took place late in the night while the goods train was on its way to Damanjodi yard. While no casualty was reported in the incident, derailment of the wagons caused a blockade on Koraput-Rayagada railway route.

Walter Railway Division officials of East Coast Railway (ECoR) along with technical staffs of the railway department reached the spot later in the night and took stock of the situation. Efforts by the railway to clear the track were started this morning.

Several trains of the route have been either cancelled or diverted due to the derailment. While Jagadalpur-Howrah Samaleswari Express, Koraput -Visakhapatnam passenger trains have been cancelled, Visakhapatnam – Kirandul Express has been short terminated at Rayagada station following the derailment. Similarly, the Bhubaneswar – Jagadalpur Hirakhand Express has been diverted via Rayagada due to the ongoing track repairing work.
