6 killed, 9 injured in separate road mishaps in Odisha

Keonjhar/Ganjam/Bargarh: At least six persons were killed and nine others sustained critical injury in separate road mishaps in Keonjhar, Bargarh and Ganjam districts in the state since last night.

Tension ran high on Hasanpur-Bhaganai under-construction bridge road under Ramachandrapur police limits in Keonjhar district today morning after a biker skidded off his bike and died on the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Dibya Ranjan Sahoo of Hasanpur village.

Angry locals staged a road blockade at the spot following the accident holding the contractor of the construction project responsible for the mishap. The blockade was removed only after Ramachandrapur Police reached the spot and assured the locals of action against the guilty.

Similarly, two girls were killed after the driver of a car they were traveling in lost control over the wheels and ended up dashing the vehicle against a stationary truck on the road near Anangpur Square under Digapahandi Police Station area in Ganjam district last night. Two male friends accompanying them in the vehicle sustained critical injury in the collision.

The deceased have been identified as Priayadarshini Patra and Salini Patra of Berhamur area. They were returning from Sampur near Jarada.

Police rushed the critical duo to MKCG Medical in Berhampur after reaching the spot.

In another accident under Digapahandi police limits, two youths were killed after the bike they were travelling by struck a roadside tree on Mahurikalua Road near Kumbhajhari village last night.

The duo has been identified as Siba Das of Kanjipalli near Berhampur and Santosh Das of Bilasahi under Gosani Nuagaon. They were returning from a picnic.

Similarly, at least one tourist was killed and seven others sustained grievous injury after a bus carrying them struck a road side pillar at Bhatli in Bargarh district today morning. All the victims are residents of Ambrapalli area of Rayagada district and were returning after performing darshan at Puri Sri Jagannath Temple.

All the injured in the accident were rushed to the Bargarh DHH and four women among them were shifted to VIMSAR in Burla later due to critical condition.
