Balasore: Launching a crackdown on unauthorised liquor trade, Excise officials raided a number of wine shops across Balasore district on Thursday and arrested at least six persons after seizing a cache of contraband from their possession.
Acting upon growing complaints of contraband sale in Khaira, Soro and Bahanaga blocks, the Balasore Excise Superintendent Manoj Kumar Sethi along with ASI Kulamani Moharana took part in a series of raids which started in the morning.
Officials searched upon shops run by Dillip Mukhi in Khaira, Manas Majhi in Tentuliapada, Basant Behera in Mathanuagaon, Tapan Mallick in Patharapentha, Jharana Ada of Soro, Arun Behera of Agiria and seized around 157 litres of country and foreign liquour. Later the officials took them into custody.
The held liquor traders have been forwarded to court after medical tests.
