6 elephant poachers caught, arms seized in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: In a major success against notorious elephant poachers in the district, the Keonjhar Forest Range officials nabbed at least six hunters from Nalapanga Forest Saturday night. Arms and ammunition along with cutting tools were also seized from the possession of the poachers.

The arrested hunters have been identified as Rajkishore Naik, Soma Munda, Ramesh Munda, Subash Hoanka, Piyuho Yabin and Sania Yabin.

A team of officials from Keonjhar Forest Range raided a place in Nalapanga Forest late in the night after getting a tip-off on the presence of a group of hunters. During the raid six poachers were nabbed while trying to give officials a slip. One rifle, a number of cartridges, saw along with other tusk cutting tools were seized from the spot.

All the arrested have been kept at the Keonjhar Forest Range and are being interrogated to find out whether they are part of an inter-state racket or not. Officials suspecting an inter-state racket behind the incident as two of the poachers Piyuho and Sania are from Arunachal Pradesh.
