Koraput: At least five persons had a close shave and sustained injuries after a roadside tree fell on a car they were traveling in near Landiguda village on NH-26 under Koraput Town police limits last evening.
The injured have been identified as residents of Mathalput village of the same district.
The incident took place at around 8 PM in the evening while the victims were returning from Damanjodi area to their village after some work boarding a car. A roadside tree got uprooted due to the gusty wind which was prevailing in the area at that time due to the onslaught of Nor’wester and fell on the car. All five who were boarding the car sustained critical injury in the mishap.
The injured were rescued from the car with the help of Koraput Town Police and ODRAF personnel who rushed them to Koraput Medical later in the night.
Angry locals staged a road blockade on Koraput-Damanjodi Road protesting the incident.
Traffic movement was restored on the route after ODRAF teams removed the tree and police held talks with blockaders.
