Berhampur: Odisha police arrested five more persons, including prime accused, for their alleged involvement in the murder of Chhatrapur Notified Area Council (NAC) councillor and BJD youth leader Laxmidutta Pradhan on Tuesday.
Ganjam SP Ashish Kumar Singh, while informing about the development at a press meet today, said that the district police arrested Santosh Sethi (prime accused), Banoj Nayak (27), Kali alias Prasanta Kumar Behera (29), Sanjay Gouda (38) and Chiku alias Ayusman Mohapatra (23) based on the CCTV footage.
Santosh played a leading role in organising the group, leading them to the house of the councillor and assaulting him, added the SP.
Two special teams were formed to probe the matter. Meanwhile, efforts are on to trace others accused of the crime. Police is likely to take the arrested persons on remand to extract more information about the murder.
Police had arrested eight persons earlier in connection with the murder.
The BJD councillor of ward no 6 was hacked to death by a group of armed miscreants on September 16 over past rivalry.
