Bhubaneswar: In a crackdown on illegal drug trade in the city, Excise officials arrested at least two peddlers including a woman and seized brown sugar weighing around 45 gram from their possession after conducting a raid here on Thursday.
The held peddlers have been identified as Saroj Patra and Ranju Pradhan.
A joint team of Bhubaneswar Excise officials and Cuttack Flying Squad raided different places in Samantarapur and Baishnav Nagar areas near Old Town in the city this morning and succeeded in arresting the peddler duo. Apart from the banned drug the team also seized cash worth Rs 1,09, 080 from the possession of the accused.
The market value of the seized brown sugar would cost over Rs 1 lakh, said an official.
Further interrogation of the held peddlers is underway to find out their links to a larger network.
