Subarnapur: Busting a fake currency racket in Biramaharajpur area in the district, police arrested at least three persons and seized 45 counterfeit currency notes of Rs 500 denomination from their possession on Friday.

The arrestees have been identified as Rajesh Kumar Sahu of Gudavelipadar village of Boudh district, Ranjit Naik of Manamunda village of Sambalpur district and Sarbeswar Mishra of Panisiali village of Subarnapur district. However, one accused managed to give police a slip during the raid.

Police said the accused trio along with the absconding aide had bought at least four goats from a local in Saradhapali village identified as Dayamani Lakra at a cost of Rs 40,000 a few days ago. However, Lakra’s wife found the currency notes given by them to be fake during an transaction at a grocery shop in the village at a later stage.

Police raided the accused’s houses acting upon a complaint lodged by Lakra in connection with the case and succeeded in arresting them.

Further investigation is underway in the incident and efforts are on to nab the absconding accused.
