Jajpur: Tension engulfed the Kalinga Nagar Industrial Area in jajpur last night after a Tata Steel security guard attacked students and teachers of the Gobara Ghati Tribal Residential High School and left 33 of them injured.

The attack took place between 11 PM and 12 AM in the night while the students of the school were preparing to go to bed after their dinner. The accused, who happens to be a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan, entered into the institution’s premise with a stick in hand and started reprimanding the students over hurling stones into the Tata Steel plant premise which shares a common boundary wall with the school. After some teachers objected him the CISF jawan started thrashing them along with the students brutally. He left the spot after the assault.

Students and teachers who sustained injuries in the attack were rushed to Dangadi CHC by Kalinga Nagar Police who reached the spot later in the night. The injured students and teachers were discharged and sent back to the school by the hospital authority at around 4 AM after treatment.

However, parents of the students and angry locals held protests before Kalinga Nagar Tata Steel plant and blocked the Chandikhol-Duburi NH-200 over the incident. They demanded an inquiry into the incident and stringent action against the guilty security guard.

Meanwhile, efforts to get reaction of the Tata Steel plant authorities on the issue have gone in vain.

Sukinda Tehsildar and DWD had reached the spot and were trying to pacify the mob till this report was being filed.
