Puri: In a crackdown on contraband liquor traders in the district, Pipili police seized an auto-rickshaw carrying at least 32 cartons of liquor and arrested three persons.
While one of the arrested persons is Tofan Behera of Pipili area, rest two are yet to be identified.
After Police found specific information on the auto-rickhshaw carrying Aska 40 illegally without a license from Cuttack to Kothapada area in Pipili, a team of cops led by Inspector In-charge (IIC) of Pipili Police Station Sarat Kumar Sahoo conducted a raid and nabbed the accused.
“After getting a tip-off on the liquor laden auto-rickshaw, we put up a barricade at Pipili Toll Gate at around 7.30 AM in the morning and detained the vehicle which contained at least 32 cartons of Aska 40 liquor,” said Sahoo.
“We arrested the auto-rickshaw driver Tofan Behera who happens to be an illegal liquor stockist active in Pipili along with two others from the spot. The contraband cartons were also seized,” he added.
The total seized liquor would weigh around 160 litres, said sources in the police.
