319 Teachers receive National Awards

National Teachers AwardNew Delhi: On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu presented the National Teachers Award to 319 teachers from across the country for their outstanding service for the year 2016, at a function here on Tuesday.

The Vice President also launched the DIKSHA portal, a National Digital Infrastructure for Teachers, aiming to enable, accelerate and amplify solutions in the realm of teacher education.

It is a unique initiative which leverages existing highly scalable and flexible digital infrastructures, while keeping teachers at the centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Naidu said “mediocre teacher tells, good teacher explains, superior teacher demonstrates and a great teacher inspires.”

“A teacher should have an ideal behaviour, which can leave a direct impression on their students as values are caught and they cannot be taught,” he added.

National Teachers Award, instituted in 1958, carries a Silver Medal, Certificate and award money of Rs 50, 000.

The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar, the Ministers of State for Human Resource Development, Upendra Kushwaha, Satya Pal Singh and the Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy, Anil Swarup were also present on the occasion.
