3 ATM looters caught red-handed by villagers in Cuttack

Cuttack: Alertness and timely step by villagers prevented yet another ATM loot from occurring in Odisha last night, after a group of residents in Asureswar area under Mahanga tehsil nabbed at least three burglars and handed them over to police later.

The incident took place late in the night while at least six looters arrived at the SBI ATM located at Hanuman Square in the area boarding a vehicle and tried to dislodge its cash box. While the looters made the attempt by taking advantage of less traffic as well as commuter movement near the ATM at night, some locals immediately reached the spot and tried to catch them.

While, three of the looters managed to flee form the spot by boarding their vehicle, rest three were nabbed. The detained trio were tied to a poll in the village later and were thrashed heavily by the villagers.

Police reached the spot and arrested the looter trio after rescuing them from the clutch of the angry mob this morning.

While the identification of the looters could not have been made so far police said two of them are from Salipur area and the other one is from Jagatpur.

An investigation is underway to trace the absconding looters.
