Kandhamal: At least 260 students of Sudra Government High School under Baliguda Teshil in the district left hostel on Wednesday alleging misappropriation of Mid-day Meal (MDM) rice and other materials of the institution by the Head Master of the school.
The incident came to light this morning after the school authorities found hostel rooms vacant and inmates absent. Several posters were also seen put up on the walls by the students bringing serious allegations against the Head Master of the school.
As per the posters, the school hostel is reeling under a host of problems and the Head Master is apathetic towards those. While fans are not being provided to inmates in the hostel they are being charged by the school authorities even for electric bulbs if those get fused. Similarly, no step is being taken by the Head Master to set up septic latrines inside the hostel despite their demand for the same repeatedly.
“While the Head Master is not able to sort out various problems of the hostel, he is involved in swindling away MDM rice by switching off the CCTV in the school. Similarly, he was selling sports items of the school outside and making big bucks. We demand his ouster and would not return to the hostel if our demands are not met,” said a student.
However, the Superintendent of the Hostel Priyabrata Sahu claimed ignorance on the issue and said he came to know about the incident at around 6 AM today.
“The inmates never talked to me on the issues surrounding the hostel. I came to know about those from the posters put up by them. Over hundred students of Class 6 to 10 have left the hostel,” said Sahu.
Meanwhile, efforts to contact the Head Master of the School over the issue went in vein.
