2 more die; Swine flu toll reaches 16 in Odisha

swine-fluBhubaneswar: Swine flu claimed two more lives in Odisha on Sunday, taking the death toll due to the vector borne disease to 16 in the state this year.

As many as 11 out of the 30 swabs sent to the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) tested positive for the deadly H1N1 virus. With this, the total number of Swine Flu positive cases has risen to 227 in the state.

Out of the 11 samples tested positive, five were reported from SCB Medical College and Hospital, two in Apollo Hospital, one each in Sum Hospital, Kar Clinic and Vivekananda Hospital. Among the 11 patients, six males and five females, three are from Khurda, while three from Puri, four from Cuttack and one from Balasore.

The death toll as well as the number of cases in the state have continued to mount despite the various measures taken by the Naveen Patnaik Government to check the spread of swine flu.
