2 including woman killed, 1 hurt in separate road mishaps in Odisha

Cuttack/Nabarangpur: At least two persons including a woman were killed and another sustained critical injury in separate road mishaps which took place in the state since this morning.

In the first instance, a woman who was riding pillion on a bike with her fiancé was killed after a speeding truck struck them from behind at Kalapathar Square under Baideswar police limits near Banki in Cuttack district early in the morning.

The deceased has been identified as Deepa Pradhan, a resident of Haladipada village.

Deepa was returning home after visiting her uncle’s house in Ragadi village when the accident took place. The couple had to tie the knot in a fortnight.

Angry locals staged a road blockade on Khandapada-Bhubaneswar Road demanding compensation to the kin of the deceased and lifted it later after police’s assurance.

Later in the morning, at least two youths of Maidalpur area were critically hurt after a bike they were traveling on was hit by an unidentified vehicle on NH-26 near Babajiguda village.

The injured were rushed to Nabarangpur DHH in a 108 ambulance where one of them died under treatment.

Babajiguda Police Station IIC Rashmi Ranjan Pradhan has reached the spot and started investigation into the incident.
