Balasore: At least two labourers were killed while four others were critically injured after coming in contact with live wire on the premises of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Chandipur in the district here on Wednesday.
The deceased persons have been identified as Manik Khilar of Srikona village under Chandipur police limits and Bibhu Khilar of Parikhi of the same police limits.
Mongala Khilar, Maheswar Khilar, Cumuki Khilar and Bubu Khilar–all from Srikona village- were critically injured in the incident.
According to reports, the victims came in contact with the under-wiring system while drilling by a machine on the DRDO’s Military Engineer Services (MES) premises to install street lights.
While two of them died on the spot, the injured were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition.
On being informed, district collector reached the hospital and took stock of their health condition. Besides, he directed for an investigation into the incident.
A pall of gloom descended on Chandipur locality following the unfortunate incident.
