2 dead, 2 injured in separate road mishaps in Odisha

Cuttack/Mayurbhanj: At least two persons were killed and an equal number sustained injuries in separate mishaps which took place at different places in Cuttack and Mayurbhanj districts in the state since last night.

In the first instance, the driver of a Tata Ace was killed after he lost control over the wheels of his vehicle causing it to overturn near Ramachandi Square under Kerilo panchayat in Cuttack district late last night.

The deceased has been identified as Arun Bal of Garam village in Kendrapara district.

In another mishap, at least two persons boarding a Tata Zest car bearing registration number OD 02 AK 8454 sustained injury after it rammed into a roadside shop near Bagadharia village under Narasinghpur block in Cuttack in the same night. The accident occurred after the driver of the vehicle lost control over the wheels due to some reason.

Kanpur Police reached the spot following the mishap and rushed the injured to Kanpur CHC from where they were shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack due to deteriorating conditions.

While the identification of the victims could not have been made so far police said they are believed to be residents of Kalamatia village.

Similarly, tension ran high at Gandhi Padia Square on NH-18 under Baisinga police limits this morning, after a college boy was mowed down after coming under the wheel of a speeding truck and angry locals staged a road blockade demanding compensation for his kin.

The deceased has been identified as Mangal Majhi, a resident of Padmanabhapur village.

Mangal was on his way to college riding a bike when a speeding truck hit him from behind and dragged for a few metres after he got stuck between the wheels. The victim died on the spot.

Police rushed the body for autopsy reaching the spot and started investigation in the case.
