Bhadrak: At least 15 houses belonging to five families were completely reduced to ashes and properties worth lakhs were lost in a massive fire which broke out in Balarampur village in Basudevpur block in the district last night.
Sparks erupted in one Sukadev Behera’s house in the village late in the night while his family members were asleep. Flames later spread to the neighbouring houses very rapidly and till Sukadev came to know about the mishap at least 15 houses have already been engulfed in fire.
Villagers called up Basudevpur fire brigade teams which reached the spot later in the night and contained the blaze. However, till then property worth lakhs including five cows had already been lost to the mishap.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be known, fire officials suspect electric short circuit behind the incident.
