Rajnagar: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict in Kendrapara district, a 14-year-old boy went missing in the Hansua river after a reptile attacked and dragged him into the water on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Srikant Sethi, son of Bichitra Sethi of Diapari village under Rajnagar Police Station area.

Srikant visited the river bank at around 10 AM and was busy taking bath when the mishap took place. The reptile, possibly a saltwater crocodile, attacked and pulled him into the water and vanished.

Rajnagar fire and forest officials reached the spot immediately after getting intimation on the incident and launched a rescued operation in the river.

While the boy remains untraceable so far, locals have blamed the forest department’s apathy for today’s incident. They have claimed that the repeated demands to set up protection walls near bathing ghats in the river have fallen into deaf ears.
