12 taken ill in Koraput village after consuming toxic mushroom

Jeypore: In yet another case of food poisoning in the state, at least 12 persons were taken ill after consuming toxic mushroom in Kundriguda village near here last night.

As per the report, the victims had collected the mushroom from their backyards yesterday and had consumed the curry prepared with it in the dinner.

All the victims developed symptoms like nausea, vomiting and loose motion after the consumption of the poisonous curry and was immediately rushed to Jeypore Sub Divisional Hospital. While four of them were discharged following improvement in condition later, eight are still under treatment.

Meanwhile, Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO), Koraput Arun Padhi and Medical Superintendent DB Tripathy have paid a visit to the SDH and inquired about their health conditions.

The district administration has decided to send a team of health officials to Kundriguda village to sensitise people against the consumption of toxic mushroom.

Notably, in a similar incident at least five members of a family fell sick in Kantarmua village under Telkoi block of Keonjhar district after consuming toxic mushroom on June 30. The family had collected the mushroom from a river side.
