Balasore: Soro Police rescued at least 12 persons including minors and women from Soro Railway Station last night conducting a crackdown on labour trafficking in the district and arrested one person.

Police got a tip-off on the group of migrant labourers huddled up at the railway station by a local labour broker at around midnight. A team of cops conducted a raid at the railway station immediately and examined their tickets along with other documents. During the inspection it came to notice that the labourers were being trafficked to Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh illegally to work in a factory.

“At least six minors including boys and girls along two women and four men from Thakuramunda area of Mayurbhanj district were rescued from the railway station. They were waiting to board a train to Hyderabad,” said Soro Police.

While the accused trafficker has been forwarded to court, police is trying to find out whether any inter-state racket is behind the incident or not.
