12 houses set on fire over post poll violence

Athagargh, Apr 11: As many as 12 houses were set on fire after group clash ensued over post poll violence at Kumarpur village under Gurudijhatia police limits in Cuttack district here on Tuesday.

According to reports, a minor exchange of words between two groups took place over political rivalry yesterday night. Later, the members of both the groups pelted stones at each other. However, it turned violent this morning following which one group set ablaze 12 thatched houses of the other group in the village.

On being informed, a fire brigade was wheeled into the spot and took control over the fire.

Athagarh Sub-collector and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) also rushed to the village and tried to pacify the irate locals.

Meanwhile, Police forces have been deployed to maintain law and order in the area as tension still prevails there.
