Rayagada: Normal life was paralysed in Ambadola area in the district on Friday following a 12-hour bandh call given by the locals over the shortage of doctor at the local Primary Health Centre (PHC).

Schools, colleges and other educational institutions remained closed during the bandh to keep untoward incidents at bay during the bandh observation which started at 6 AM in the morning

While shops and other business establishments also downed their shutters, local youths held a sit-in protest before the PHC.

The bandh supporters also staged road blockade in the area and resorted to picketing which brought the traffic movement on the State Highway passing through the area to a grinding halt. Hundreds of heavy vehicles including goods-laden trailer trucks were seen stranded on both sides of the road during the protests. Vehicular movement to Kalahandi district was also affected adversely due to the protests.

The locals are demanding immediate filling-up of a doctor post which is lying vacant at the Ambadola PHC since long. The locals have alleged that their repeated demands for a doctor to the district administration have fallen on deaf ears.
