100 gm brown sugar seized, 2 held in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Excise Department officials arrested two drug peddlers from Haladipadia slum in the city today and seized brown sugar weighing 100 grams from their possession.

While one of the arrested is Bidhan Chandra Jayadhara the identity of the other is yet to be ascertained.

The raid was conducted after Excise officials got specific information on the peddlers, this morning. A team of four officials raided a house located in the Haladipadia slum under Laxmisagar police limits and nabbed two persons from the spot. After conducting a search in the house officials found around 100 grams of brown sugar kept in separate packets and seized them.

Excise sources said the seized drug worth around Rs 10 lakh reached the city from Kolkata via Jaleshwar. Informing on the modus operandi of the drug traders, they added that brown sugar is being sold widely in various slum areas in the city and separate Excise teams have been formed to conduct raids there.

Notably, it is not for the first time that illegal drug has been seized from Halaldipadia slum. At least 20 grams brown sugar was seized from the slum and one person was arrested in a similar fashion in April this year.
