girlsBaripada: Over a hundred students of Morada Patapur government SSD girls’ high school in Mayurbhanj district left their hostel and embarked on a long journey covering a distance of around 30 kilometres to  Baripada on foot to meet the district collector over safety and security issues. Girls took up the laborious task following school authorities’ alleged apathy in addressing their issues.

According to reports, a group of outsiders barged into the girls’ hostel of the school on the day of Ganesh Puja on Friday and misbehaved with some inmates before fleeing the spot. Though the girls took up the issue with college authorities the same day, no step has been taken in the matter so far compelling the girls to leave the hostel and meet the district collector to apprise him of the whole issue.

Meanwhile, Bangiriposhi MLA Sudam Marandi, who rushed to the area following the incident, failed to hold a talk with the girls as they expressed their unwillingness to talk to him.

The students had marched till the Nichuapada area when this report was being filed.
