Sundergarh: In a major blow to the militant outfit Peoples’ Liberation Front of India (PLFI), security personnel gunned down one of its activist and arrested two others during an encounter in Simdega district of neighbouring Jharkhand district near Odisha border last night.

The killed ultra has been identified as Pandav alias Lambu, an Area Commander of the banned organisation.

Informing on the encounter Simdega SP Rajiv Ranjan Singh said a raid was conducted in the Sagajor forest under Bansajor police limits in Simdega district after police got a tip-off on PLFI members’ presence in the area. During the raid the suspected members of PLFI tried to give police a slip and opened fire at cops. As police retaliated Pandav was struck with a bullet and died later. Two of his aides were nabbed from the spot and taken into custody.

Police also seized at least five rifles, two pistols, a number of live bullets and a solar plate was seized from the possession of the arrested ultras, Singh added.
