1 killed, 8 hurt in head-on collision between cars in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: One person was killed and eight others sustained injury in a head-on collision between two speeding cars on NH-55 under Dhenkanal Sadar Police Station area in the district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Siria Sahu, a resident of Padmanabhapur village. The injured are SK Mohammad of Talabarakota, Abani Sahu, Rajesh Lochan Sahu and Rashmi Ranjan Raul of Kamakhyanagar, Tarun Mallick of Godarabili, Raju Nayak of Anla Bareni, Madhab Chandra Sahu of Haladibari, and Santa Sahu of Kantio village.

The mishap took place at around 11.30 PM in the night right in front of the Dhenkanal truck association office, after driver of one of the cars heading to Dhenkanal town lost control over the wheels and hit the another car traveling in the opposite direction on the highway. Both the cars got badly mangled in the crash leaving Siria dead on the spot with eight others injured.

The injured were rushed to Dhenkanal DHH by a 108 ambulance after being rescued from the damaged vehicles with the help of fire service personnel later in the night. Seven of them were later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack due to deteriorating condition.

Police have seized the mangled vehicles and rushed the body for autopsy.
