1 killed, 2 injured in Nano-Innova head-on collision

Jharsuguda: At least one person was killed and two others sustained critical injury after a Tata Nano car was struck head-on by a Toyota Innova SUV on NH-49 near Singheibahal village under Kolabira Police Station area in the district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Chandra Nayak, a resident of Singheibahal village.

The mishap took place in the morning while Ramesh along with his wife Binita was on his way to board a train at Jharsuguda Railway Station. A few minutes after leaving her home in a Nano and taking up the NH-49 route, a speeding Innova coming from the opposite direction smacked into their vehicle from the front. The impact of the collision was so serious that both the vehicles got badly mangled and fell into a nearby farmland.

While Ramesh died on the spot, Binita along with the driver of the Nano sustained critical injury in the accident. They were rushed to a nearby hospital by some bystanders immediately.

Angry locals staged a road blockade at the spot demanding compensation and free medical treatment for the victims.

Kolabira Police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem after seizing both the vehicles.
