1 killed, 1 critical in wild elephant attack

elephant attackBargarh: In yet another case of man-animal conflict in the state, a man was killed and another sustained critical injury in wild elephant attack in Baidapali village under Paikamal police limits in the district, last night.

The deceased has been identified as Lal Bahadur Hans of Kenakuda village. The injured is Birju Bariha of Paikamal village.

The victim duo fall prey to the wild pachyderm attack while returning to home after attending a tribal dance event held in the Baidapali village. Lal Bahadur and Birju reportedly visited a crop field located near the village to attend call of nature, unaware of the presence of wild elephant over there. The duo were chased and trampled by the pachyderms immediately.

While Lal Bahadur died on the spot, Birju was rushed to Paikamal Community Health Centre (CHC) in a critical condition by the villagers today morning.

The incident has left people in a state of panic in Baidapali village, as it happens to be the first such incident of wild elephant attack in the area.
