Bhubaneswar: The officials of the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here seized gold weighing 1 kg worth Rs 31,54,620 from the possession of two passengers today.
As per the press release issued by Shashi Bhushan, assistant commissioner of Customs of the airport, a passenger of Indian origin, hailing from New Delhi, was intercepted after he arrived from Bangkok by Air India flight A1-339. During the search, the officials recovered gold chains from his baggage.
In the second such incident, the Customs officials recovered a kada of foreign origin from the possession of a passenger from Jagatsinghpur who arrived from Dubai by Air India flight AI-077.
The officials said the collective weight of the seized gold was 1 kg worth Rs 31, 54, 620.
This is the fourth and fifth seizure of smuggled gold at Bhubaneswar Airport in last 10 days.
